September 3rd marks the annual Freddie For A Day celebration. It's the day we celebrate the life and times of one of the greatest frontmen of all time, the late, great, Freddie Mercury.

It’s an annual event which falls around Mercury’s birthday date and is a fun way to remember one of the greatest artists of our time. But behind it is the earnest purpose of raising funds to support the continued work in fighting HIV AIDS worldwide through the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the HIV AIDS charitable organisation set up in Freddie’s memory after his passing almost 20 years ago (can you believe it's been 20 years?).

What you need to do today is dress up like Freddie and get anyone and everyone you know to sponsor you. Simple.

The ‘Live Magic Freddie’ yellow jacket and white trousers outfit that Freddie wore at Wembley Stadium in 1986 has been made available to buy at the official Australian Freddie For A Day store www.freddieforaday.com.au, with all profits going to charity. Alternatively, Freddies can make their own costume.  Diana Moseley, Freddie’s original costume designer, will be posting ideas and suggestions and Richard Gray, Queen’s photographer and creative designer, will provide a gallery of photos of the costumes. Those making their own costumes should send a photo via the Freddie website as Diana Moseley will be judging the best home-made costume and a handful of winners will receive a special certificate signed personally by Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
