'80s Movie Master Dies Post by: Craig Weston 7 August, 2009 - 9:50 AM
"I can’t believe it... John Hughes has died"
"John who?"
That’s probably the response from millions of people around the world upon hearing the news of John Hughes’ untimely death. And granted, it’s not a name that comes to mind when you’re talking about ground breaking movie directors and / or producers.
But to pretty much every Gen X’r out there that grew up reciting all the classic lines to the seemingly endless line up of seminal ‘80s teen movies, the man was an absolute legend who will never be replaced.
John Hughes is the man who wrote and directed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science and Uncle Buck.
He's also the guy that wrote the National Lampoon series of Vacations and the Home Alone's, amongst many other classics.
Hughes died suddenly of a heart attack at 59 years of age, whilst in New York City visiting his family.
We’d love to know what your favourite John Hughes movie moment.

Did you also know he wrote and directed "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" starring Steve Martin and John Candy.
This was a great comedy and had some touching scenes which are classic.
This is one of my all time favourite films and has made me a fan of John Hughes ever since.
