AC/DC Slams U2 Posted by Eddie Ruckus 3 February, 2010 - 4:34 AM

Isn’t it great to have AC/DC back on our side of the world and actually getting to hear a bit of what the guys – or at least frontman Brian Johnson – thinks about life?

In what’s being touted as the band’s only newspaper interview ahead of their Australian tour [oh, are AC/DC coming out here? Hadn’t even heard …], Johnson has let fly at do-gooder rock & rollers who feel the need to tell the world every time they put 20 cents in a collection tin.

“When I was a working man, I didn’t want to go to a concert for some bastard to talk down to me that I should be thinking of some kid in Africa,” Johnson has told Melbourne’s Herald-Sun newspaper.

“I'm sorry mate, do it yourself, spend some of your own money and get it done. It just makes me angry. I become all tyrannical.

“It makes me mad when people try to use politics or charity for publicity. Do a charity gig, fair enough, but not on worldwide television.

“Make it seemly, but that’s how I feel. I feel U2 are a bit like a Saab – you know they’re good but you just don’t get it.”

Oh, ouch – someone put that bulldog back on his leash!

Johnson went on to say that he keeps his charitable dirty deeds to himself and also put to rest any talk about imminent retirement.

“Of course I don't want to retire,” he said. “But I’m telling you if the body or the voice packs in, there’s nothing I can do. I’ll go on as long as I can. Thankfully the old tubes have held up.”

What do you think of Brian Johnson’s anti-Bono rant?

I agree with Brian Johnson, Bono always wants publicity and anyway could give a heck of a lot more to charity.

This is just stupid. Those of us who buy U2 tickets are aware we are going to hear about their latest charity (I'd rather that than a lecture about our country's gun laws).

We all have pet projects and charities, we wear rubber wristbands, we give in our own way. This is Bono's way.

If Brian does have a pet charity, it's not doing his charity any good for him to keep it silent, when he could enlighten all of his fans and possibly get others on board.

Bono is making the world a better place - U2's songs are all bent that way. Not about sex, drugs and rock & roll. This is a non-issue.

I don't think Brian was referring to any particular charity.

Each to their own & same for opinions.

If U2 want to advertise every charity that's fine, but I have got to agree wholeheartedly with Brian about putting some of their squillions into charity, maybe they do, but from Brian's rant, he possibly has inside info that they don't? This is an opinion, OK.
